Urgench is located in western Uzbekistan, on the Amu Darya River and the Shavat canal. The city is the capital of the Khorezm Province of Uzbekistan.

The history of Urgench goes back to the 17th century when the Amu Darya river changed its course leaving the city of Konya-Urgench dry and without water whereas its inhabitants had to move and re-settle in other place

There is an international airport located in Urgench. The airport can receive all kinds of aircrafts including charters with tourists.  The airport is the gateway for tourists to Khiva – a city-museum included into the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is just 35 km far from it.
