*** (1) Today a very special trip is on a plan. We drive from Samarkand to a small village in the mountains around. From here we go with many locals on a pilgrimage over the mountain to the cave of St. David. From toddlers to the elderly, the locals make this pilgrimage. Tourists, however, are very rarely seen here. The rise itself takes about 1.5 hours of 1303 steps up on the ladders, which may be even longer, because our guests always like to enter and stay at the booths and huts of friendly locals. We also have scheduled no rush and the whole day is dedicated for this unique experience. Behind a ridge we go back down for a bit, until we reach the entrance of the cave. Here the St. David was hiding from his unbelieving persecutors, who wanted to kill him, leaving traces of his hands in the rock. According to the Bible God had endowed him with special powers.
You finally stand at the entrance to the cave, you have to expect long queues, which is sometimes too big. But when you finally reach the interior, an atmospheric ceremony expects you in the cave that will remain long in the memory.
The way down to the village we can take a different path, instead of the ladders on the ascent. This allows seeing other views of the mountains. Down in the village, we still have to prepare our food with the locals.
– Drive about 1.5 hours

***(2) Then we go further in the Nurata Mountains, in the region Tabiati Forisch, where we arrive early afternoon to the village of Ashraf. We live in a family guest house and get acquainted with the authentic life of the locals. Lunch will be served at the farmer’s family in the guest house. We dwell a little on the shady places. Later in the afternoon we go on a leisurely hike through the beautiful mountain landscape and enjoy the fantastic views. For dinner we go back in the guest house.
